Jax Review - A Smile in a Whisper

Jax Review - A Smile in a Whisper

Author: Jacquelyn Middleton
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another delightful read from Jacquelyn Middleton! At this point, if Jacquelyn is writing it, I'm reading it.

A Smile in a Whisper is a second-chance romance that follows small-town Evie and her celebrity crush, Nick.

What I Loved:
- The Inclusion! Jacquelyn did a phenomenal job writing a love story that involved Crohn's disease, panic attacks and anxiety, in a way that was real, but not forced. I've seen some of books try to be inclusive, but it comes across clunky and as if they are just trying to check a box. A Smile In A Whisper gives you a real look into what it's like to live with these illnesses and the constraints they put on someone's life, especially Crohns.
- The Dual timelines - I loved how this story unfolded between two timelines, the present day and 13 years ago when Evie and Nick first met. As with any second chance romance, I was dying to know what caused the initial break up. The dual timeline had me tearing through the book trying to uncover it!
- Orkney is now on my travel bucket list. Orkney was a character all on it's own! Jacquelyn did a beautiful job bringing the island to life and sharing it's history with the readers.

What I Didn't Love:
- I won't spoil anything, but when we finally got to the initial break-up reveal, I was so upset! I didn't see it coming at all and was so frustrated by the situation!
- The miscommunication trope, but that's never a favorite of mine.

Thank you Grey's Promotion for this ARC. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
